Will Anything Be Different This Year?

 Happy NEW Year! 🥳


2023 is here and we are in the midst of starting this year with a fresh start (maybe).

Is anything actually new aside from the date on the calendar? 

Are we (yes I said we) stuck in old patterns, old mindsets or behaviors?

I often chuckle at the beginning of a new year because I find that really NOT much has changed. It is just a new date on the calendar.

Americans are still in debt, COVID remains, inflation still persists, safety and security feel illusive. Our world remains divided and dangerous.

For this year to be different it will take YOU taking intentional actions. Personally or professionally you must make up your mind to MOVE forward. Take ONE step forward.

I hear people often "talking" about what they want to change. They are fully aware of what they need to do. But unfortunately before January ends, many will slip back into old patterns and habits. It sounds impressive to say, "I want to be debt free, I want to lose weight, I will squash negative thinking, I need more rest, I will go to bed early, or I will drink more water (just to name a few).

What will you DO this year to see change?

In Atomic Habits written by James Clear he states, "You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." Take a minute to think about that statement.

The large wins you want to see manifest in 2023 will start with small beginnings. If you want to start exercising start small. Spend a few days just putting on your workout clothes and sneakers (as suggested in Atomic Habits). 

Mentally prepare yourself for a new habit. Consider laying out your exercise clothes before going to bed so you don't have that barrier in the morning. You are quickly and consistently creating a new habit of becoming someone who exercises and prioritizes their health. 

Next week, head outside for that walk. 10 minute intervals works wonders - walk after you eat if that is available to you. Before you know it, you will see progress. Not perfection but progress. Determine to get 1% better everyday. That will have a compounding effect in your life.

The change you want to see in 2023 will not just happen. 

You must take action. 

You can not just talk about it to see change.
