Lunch Worries

I must admit that I loathe taking time in the evenings to prepare lunch for the next day.  What if my kids don't go to school for one reason or another?  Not sure what the scenario might be, but what if?  That would mean that the time I spent on fixing lunches could've been used in another way.

I just might be the only one who feels this way.  I'm sure that moms and dads all over the world pack lunches in the evenings to ensure a hassle free morning the next day.  I'm just not one of them.  It's all I can do to get through one day.  The thought of trying to figure it all out for the next one is sometimes more than I care to think about.  My husband on the other hand is completely different.  On the days that he takes the kids to school, he prepares the lunches the night before and even finds time to iron their clothes.

The other night I started thinking about the lunches I would prepare in the morning when I thought about the children of Israel from the Bible.  History tells us that after 400 years of slavery, Moses successfully convinced Pharaoh to let them go.  It's believed that nearly a million men, women, and children left Egypt headed toward the Promiseland.

The Gathering of the Manna by James Tissot
God promised to feed the Israelites with manna.  In the Book of Exodus, manna is described as being a fine flake, like the frost on the ground.  It is believed that the manna was collected daily, ground and pounded into cakes.

Each day manna would fall and only the amount that was needed for that day was gathered.  Most days, they didn't have to worry about collecting enough to "pack for lunch" the next day.  If they tried to store the substance, it would get wormy and smelly.  Except on the sixth day of the week so that they could rest on the seventh day.

Exodus 16:4-5 shares the following:

"God said to Moses, "I'm going to rain bread down from the skies for you. The people will go out and gather each day's ration. I'm going to test them to see if they'll live according to my teaching or not. On the sixth day, when they prepare what they have gathered, it will turn out to be twice as much as their daily ration."

Here's the lesson-God is our daily bread!  He will supply our needs, moment by moment.

You may find yourself worrying about something that might happen in a few days or even next month.

Stop it!

Allow God to reveal His will for your life minute by minute.  Open yourselves to receive His instruction for today.  Tomorrow will take care of itself.

Matthew 6:34 (MSG)

"Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes."  (Posted by Renee)

  1. Beautiful lesson. The birds don't plant, harvest or store their foods, but God provides...how much more will He provide for us! I'm like you, I seriously dislike even thinking about preparing the kids lunches and clothes for the next day, but to avoid the rush in the morning, I drag myself and get it done...even if it means going to bed late (which always happens). But I enjoy solace in the AM and having my quiet time without the rush. If I could get my husband to do it, that would be great!
