Double Portion Inspiration

When was the last time you rested? Not just a few hours of sleep in the evening or even an afternoon nap. I mean, taking an entire day to REST. Our world is so full of  activities, work, sports, cleaning, cooking, caring for kids and so many other distractions that we often lose sight of the commandment that God gave us in the 20th chapter of Exodus. Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9  Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10  but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. How many times do you ride by a homeless man or woman and keep driving? You desire to help but you also don't want to give money that could possibly be used to feed an addiction. I would venture to say that almost every person reading this post has experienced this scenario. Today I was inspired by my son's school to make a difference! Their youth department prepares gallon-size plastic storage bags to bless the homeless. They contain various items such as soup, nuts, mints, bottle of water, spoon, and a granola bar. The bag also includes an index card with the name, phone number, location and operation hours of the local Christian Social Services office. Whenever they drive by someone in need, they give them a bag. What a concept......a drive by blessing! This idea was profound for me. You have the ability to impact someone's life with a simple gesture. The word of God tells us, to whom much is given, much is required. We are blessed beyond measure, why not share the bl...

I love to eat. Every Saturday night my family agrees on a restaurant (this can sometimes take hours). The sacred part about this family dinner is that we can't use technology-no Ipad, no Iphone, no Blackberry, no DS, nothing! It is not easy. In the end we silence our phones and toast our success from the previous week. On Saturday, my oldest son asked this question, "Mom, did God give every one a gift?" Without hesitation I said, " yes ". I believe each one of us have a gift. Many of us will spend a lifetime trying to figure out what our forte is. There is a wonderful scripture in the Bible that says, " He (God) alone decides which gift each person should have ." I Corinthians 12:11. Recently I had to submit my biography for a writer's conference. It took me weeks to develop it. Similar to most people I found it hard to talk about my strengths and accomplishments.
