Way to go Graduates!

A special tribute to all the graduates in 2013

I love this time of year when so many people are graduating.  Graduation time is filled with great expectation and positive energy. The whole world and all it has to offer is ahead of you. The graduation ceremonies are a huge step of leaving the past behind and walking towards a new future. This feeling of moving forward is usually faced with anxiety and uncertainty. You are unsure of what the future holds but you have graduated to a new place.

I believe that
graduation should not happen only to those who are in school. One of the biggest mistakes we can make is to think that learning stops when we leave the educational process. We must forever be challenged to learn and grow. Many of us are living "stagnant" lives because we won't utilize the creative and productive force inside each of us. Some of us need to elevate our thinking.

"I am learning all the time. The tombstone will be my diploma." ~Eartha Kitt

What will YOU chose to learn today?  This year, Renee and I will celebrate 40 years of life.  I remember my father always said, "You don't start living until you reach the age of 40". Start living and learning! Don't allow past failures to hinder the great expectation of a bright future no matter your age.

I leave you with the famous words of Dr. Suess:
You have brains in your head.
You have feet in your shoes.
You can steer yourself
any direction you choose.
You're on your own.
And you know what you know.
And
YOU are the one who'll decide where to go.

Will you
succeed?
Yes, you will indeed!

3/4 percent guaranteed.)

Has God Left Me?

Boston Marathon Bombing...3 Girls Held In Captivity For 10 years...12 Year Old Boy Stabs His Younger Sister...Killings in Sandy Hook Elementary

The list can go on and on.  The headline news stories are scary.  These over sensationalized headlines leave us gasping and wondering, "What has happened to our world"? Our world moves fast and we are privy to news stories as they are unfolding.  Many times we are receiving the information prematurely.  We make up our minds quickly on who is guilty.  We read half the story and sit at the water cooler speaking confidently as if we know all the facts of the case.

Are you starting to wonder if GOD has left you?

Recently, a woman I truly admire for her deep faith and Christian convictions looked at me and asked, "Why does God allow these things to happen?"  Her question has stayed with me for weeks.  I wanted to ask her that same question, but surprisingly she asked me first.  Some things are just incomprehensible and can't be explained.  As my sister once said, "You just can't explain crazy!"

The question started me thinking that if a woman with deep faith questions GOD, so are other people.  It is hard to grasp the scope of darkness in our world until we see it splashed over the 6:00 news.  The headlines are becoming more and more wicked, vicious and disgusting. News anchors are left to report on some of the most horrifying events in our history and within seconds move to the next news story.

Behind that story, lives are broken.  Human bodies bear the guilt, shame and horror of their attack.  Children and families are destroyed.  Years of therapy are warranted for the evil that changed their life in an instant.  Marathon survivors are learning how to walk again.  Mothers are grieving the death of their children.  It is not a 30 second news story for each victim/survivor, for them it will be a lifelong journey of healing.

How can you shift the negativity away from you:
  1. Read the news, don't watch it on TV
  2. Limit social media
  3. Surround yourself with positive people
  4. STOP talking
  5. PRAY
Reading the newspaper is a wonderful way to filter the news you take in.  Give yourself 30 minutes a day for social media -Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.  This will help you manage your time. It will also provide limited access to constant, live news feeds on social media.  Keep a great group of friends nearby to help lift you when your feeling down.  Some days you just need to laugh, and a great friend with positive energy can offer that.

Stop speaking the latest drama from the news to every person you see.  The more you speak it, the more YOU give the story power. Ask God to help you process what is happening in our world.  Love and forgive through His eyes.  Rely on Him to move you through those tough moments.  Try and create new memories.  If a news story makes you relive a painful time in your past, find a way to create a new memory to replace the painful memory. Consistently PRAY that God heals our world.

Together, as a country, we will heal from this pain.  We are the strongest and most resilient people on the face of this planet.  By the way, God has NOT left you!  He promises, in scripture, to never leave or abandon us.

ENCOURAGEMENT:  "Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows.  But take heart, because I have overcome the world." John 16:33 (Posted by Roslyn)

Happy Mother's Day - 2013

Going to the park!
This season of life is busy, crazy, hectic and truly the most exhilarating ride of my life.  I'm talking about being a MOM.  My focus, since becoming a mother, is no longer about me (not an easy transition).  The priority and role I work at the hardest is being a great mom.  The job of being a mom, for me, is not just something I want to do "good".  I really want to excel and be brilliant at this.

I realized quickly that I am not just raising two kids. I'm raising two boys on their way to becoming men.

I pray daily over them.  I breastfed them. I've cried at their bedside.  I've consoled them when they laid in a hospital bed. I'm in awe of the smells that come from them.  I hate to see them in pain.  I laugh, dance and play with them.  I shirk at their annoying comments to each other.  I scream when they don't listen.  I've sat through hours of baseball so they can see, feel and know I support them.  I secretly enjoy the rare occasion that they will let me kiss them (although NEVER in public).  I seek out those "teachable moments".  I cry when I receive a handmade gift or poem.  I just LOVE being their MOM!

Raising them is one of the greatest joys in my life.  I was made for my boys.  God wired this body to hang out with these boys.  These boys are smart, silly, low maintenance, and keep me extremely active.

I have a huge network of mom friends!  Moms have to stick together to get through the toughest assignment of our life.  No sick days or paid time off.  So on this Mother's Day I honor all those who in some way touch the life of a child.

A child you birthed, teach in school, take for ice cream, volunteer with or just love because they are in your neighborhood.  It takes a village to raise kids.  Mother's Day is the perfect time to salute this amazing sacrifice. (Posted by Roslyn)

He Romanced Us!

Ready to enjoy the weekend!

Excitement. Pure Bliss. Exquisite. Peaceful.

Those are just some of the words I can use to describe our girls weekend on last week.

4 best friends + perfect weather = The most amazing time!

How can I sum up a weekend that we wait for all year long?  Just think about it....

No kids.  No husbands. No schedules.

Roslyn and Kwani catching up

Just three days to catch up, eat like crazy, and soak up some sun.  We start the weekend with hugs, pictures, and long talks.  We weren't in our resort room long before the conversations started to emerge.   Late nights and early mornings were the order for the weekend.  We were so grateful to have this time together because great friendships are good for the soul.  Our relationships should be developed and nurtured through good and bad times.  It's similar to our relationship with Christ.

This year's trip was a little different for me.  It was better than year's before on so many levels.  I'm in a different place in my life than I was just a year ago.  This new season in my life is freeing.  I'm able to engage in each moment more.  I felt as if God was romancing me in such a special way this year.  The sunrise was bright and vivid.  The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was more pleasant to my ears than I remembered in the past.  The beautiful white caps on the waves looked like snow from a distance.  The horizon in the far off distance made all my dreams and visions seem closer than ever before.

I believe God was getting my attention through nature's beauty in such a special way.  Everyday His passion toward us is evident with chirping birds, warm sunshine, green grass and blue skies.  How often do we take time to enjoy it?  When was the last time you opened yourself to allow the lover of your soul, God our Creator, call to you and you answer?  He's pursuing us constantly.  He places rainbows in the sky after a storm just to let you know He's still there.  He has a FIERCE devotion toward us.  Let Him in.  He loves you! Hosea 2:14 (MSG)

14-15 “And now, here’s what I’m going to do:
I’m going to start all over again.
I’m taking her back out into the wilderness
where we had our first date, and I’ll court her.
I’ll give her bouquets of roses.
I’ll turn Heartbreak Valley into Acres of Hope.
She’ll respond like she did as a young girl,
those days when she was fresh out of Egypt.
