I am out of prison!

Normalcy is returning in the U.S. 

COVID restrictions have lifted. 

For me that meant taking vacation with my girlfriends. We normally travel annually to meet up. Unfortunately, we hadn't taken a trip since 2017. Although we did the Zoom thing in 2020, we missed the physical interaction of being face to face.

The girls trip this year felt different. In fact, it was extra special. The excitement before the trip was exhilarating. No one was really focusing on work, we wanted to start vacation early (wouldn't you?). 

The thought of no plans, no housework, no cooking (unless we wanted) and no children asking, "What's for dinner?" We love our families but the opportunity to have solitude with friends is priceless.

There was so much to celebrate. 

Since 2017, four of the seven kids in our village graduated from high school and started college. 

We celebrated one sister being healed from cancer. 

We celebrated the completion of a 25 year retail career. 

Also the end of another TOUGH school year was reason to celebrate. 

We celebrated the joy of being COVID free. 

We prayed for those hurting in our communities. Days before our trip we learned about the condo collapse in Surfside, Florida. During our time apart we experienced highs but also heartaches and sorrow. Through it all we were reunited and thankful that God had kept our families together.

There was no stopping the gut busting laughs and tears during our time together. Staying up late, shopping, watching the sunrise, searching for shells, walking on the beach, toes in the sand and just being a sister circle. 

We never stopped laughing!


This Summer we are hoping that you get the opportunity to break out of your prison. Whether home has felt like prison with all the pandemic restrictions or an emotional prison in your mind. 

Be FREE to explore, discover, laugh and reunite with your loved ones. 

I will not be paralyzed by fear. What I fear is NOT living. I am intentionally deciding to make the most of each day God provides. Our shirts say it all - BLESSED.

Take A Lesson From Ants

I walked into my house and a portion of my floor was covered with little, black ants.  I instantly knew the kids had dropped some sticky substance on the tile floor. That mess attracted what looked like an entire nest of these little, pesky insects.  They were all moving around in unison enjoying what was probably going to be their lunch or dinner. Ironically on Sunday, a dear friend gave me a wonderful scripture about the lesson we can learn from ants.  Really, I thought, how can I possibly learn anything from something that annoys me so much.  I guess you know where I'm going with this.  There is a lesson to learn from ants about efficiency and productivity.   The ants didn't waste any time moving into action to retrieve whatever mess my boys left on the floor.  Not only that, they called all of their "ant" friends to help them in this insurmountable task. I Am Raising America's Most Hated...

BEWARE:  This is not your normal blog post It is not easy raising children.  But raising one of our country's most hated members of society brings more complication into the equation.  Let me clarify for you...raising a black male in America IS scary.  The world easily looks at color on a male as a deterrent to any intellectual ability.  Most men of color are viewed with the ability to only perform one thing - entertainment.  It could be a stand up comedian, singer, runner, actor, football or basketball player. Black males, unfortunately, only see the world through limited lenses.  Other races, ethnicities and gender can view the world with a vast amount of opportunities, but not if you are a black male.  You walk into a room or a packed elevator and people grab their handbags.  You walk next to their car and they lock their doors.  It's the overwhelming amount of negative images that have plagued and are fed into mainstream homes via our tv, social media and newspapers.
