Our MOST special Thanksgiving!

Image
My Wombmate! Our MOST Special Thanksgiving ! Today is the day when many will enjoy a feast full of incredible Fall dishes. You walk into any Thanksgiving host home and the smells of Fall enter your nostrils making you even more hungry than when you arrived. There is so much activity that will happen around the Thanksgiving table - some people will rummage through retail circular ads planning their Black Friday shopping strategy. The tv, for some, is playing the coveted Thanksgiving Day football games. The kids will catch up swapping school stories as they countdown to Christmas break. Then there is the group that will debate the latest pop culture events and politics. In their opinion, they will solve the world’s greatest problems. Well for Renee and I, this week has been a test of grit, resiliency, faith and a reminder of our incredible bond. I know many of you have siblings but the bond between identical twins is something short of amazing. Renee and I can finish ...

The Morning After

Image
If you live here in the United States it is the morning after one of the most polarizing Mid Term elections. The democratic process has spoken and the winners in each race, for the most part, have been declared. Some of us had our candidate WIN and some of us had our candidate LOSE , now what? First , realize that all hope is NOT lost. We now shift our focus to praying for each of the elected officials. They have the steep task of making good on ALL those campaign promises. As we know some things are easier said than done. When our elected officials succeed, WE win no matter their political party. Second , salvation will NOT come from a party or a single candidate. It will take ALL of us digging in to start the necessary change at home. It starts at home . I have many friends that are teachers and they all say the best training starts at home. Schools are NOT the sole answer to kids problems. In the same way that government is NOT the answer to all of our problems eith...

VOTE!

Image
The 2018 midterm election is looming. There are some people that feel it doesn’t matter, nothing seems to change. Some might feel numb, desensitized and indifferent to what is currently happening to our society. Are the rules of decency being rewritten? I feel anxious, after 3 hate crimes in 1 week - what is next? Who will help preserve Mother Earth? What WORLD am I leaving for my kids? The answer to many of those questions are answered as we evoke our democratic process and VOTE . Don’t become indifferent to the state of affairs around you. Don’t be lulled into any false sense of security. Your VOTE matters.  Renee and I take it seriously and spend weeks educating ourselves on the Amendments, the candidates, their platform and their priorities. Don’t rely on news outlet or negative ad sound bites. Do your OWN research and find the candidate that best speaks to YOUR unique needs. If you are feeling afraid or anxious in light of the recent a...

I'm Pissed!

Image
I'm sure the title of my post offends some, however, it's the only word strong enough to share my level of disappointment and frustration over today's political environment. What happened to the days when we could sit down together and have a decent debate about our views? Sometimes we agreed and sometimes we didn't. So what! We would just agree to disagree and move on. Not today. This political environment is different. Way different. A difference of opinion today means that a person is judged for their beliefs. We're judged by how we vote, what we feel about the issues and where we choose to get our news from. If you believe in one Republican ideal you're labeled a Conservative. If you side with some of the Democratic ideals you're labeled a Socialist or Liberal. There's no middle ground or moderate voice in today's political dialogue. What happened? Whether you believe it or not, families are being torn apart. Friends are ...

You Have More TIME Than You Think

Image
"I don't have time for that." "Sorry I can't come, I am too busy." "I wish there were more hours in my day." "I will have to decline that invitation, my schedule is packed." "Oh gosh, so sorry that I am late (again)." "I picked up the phone to call you, but started working on something else and forgot." Have you said any of these statements lately? For most of us, they are common comments or thoughts when we are frustrated that we are running OUT of time. Our schedules are packed with activities, meetings and deadlines. Our kids social calendars creep into our overflowing calendar and missed appointments are bound to happen. This Summer I was inspired to take on a reading challenge. Now reading is something I love to do but like most people, rarely find the time to do it. A team member told me I needed to make edits in my life so that I could find time to read, find time to do something I loved. Di...

Back to the Basics!

Image
If you're connected to me on Facebook, you've noticed that I post a hymn every Sunday. Although I love gospel and contemporary Christian music, there's just nothing like the singing of a hymn to remind you of the goodness of God. Most hymns originated in the middle of a test or trial. They were sung in an effort to set the atmosphere to enter into the presence of God. One of the most popular hymns, "Amazing Grace", was written in the 1700's at a time when the author was in the midst of a turbulent storm that battered his sailing vessel. He cried out to God for mercy. It was a moment that led to his spiritual conversion. In a day and time when our world is full of anxiety, uncertainty, and trying times, we MUST go back to the basics. If you wonder what that looks like, here's my suggestion: KEEP IT SIMPLE ! 1. Pray continually 2. Remain focused on God (not your problem) 3. Sing hymns 4. Stay thankful Here are scriptures that reinforce...

Permission To Cry

The inevitable happened, Tyler went off to college. I was a stay at home mother for the first 7 years of his life. Time has evaporated and I kissed my son goodbye as he headed back to his dorm just 2 weeks ago. #YIKES Although Tyler remains my son and will come home often, the thought of him being out of the house had my nerves on edge (that's MY truth) this year.  There are many of my friends that previously talked about this feeling. Well, I was  now in the position to experience it firsthand. I constantly thought: How will I adjust to 1 less child in the home? Does that actually mean buying LESS groceries? 😀 Who will NOW entertain our younger son? Will he want ME to play Fort Nite? Being a mom has defined me for the past 18 years. I remember when I left to attend the University of Florida, I did not return back to my mom's house. I got married right after college and started working upon graduation. I guess it's what a mother wants for her child, I'...
