When Was The Last Time You Prayed For The President?

Image
It's my weekend to blog and I wasn't sure what I wanted to write about.  With the verdict announcement yesterday and the feeling that more could have been done for Jordan Davis to receive justice, I wondered if I would repost Roslyn's post," I am Raising Americas Most Hated. "  I chose differently and instead decided to ask a question................. When was the last time you prayed for the President ? Tomorrow is President's Day (post written on Sunday).  A day when we commemorate past presidents of the USA. I couldn't help but think about our very own, President Barack Obama and other government leaders and the constant criticism they receive.  All of their words and actions are under constant scrutiny.  You might have even joined in on some of the discussions but, when was the last time you prayed for the President? 1 Timothy 2:1-3 (MSG) The first thing I want you to do is pray. Pray every way you know how, for everyone you know. Pray es...

Roslyn's Truth Moment

Image
There was a weekly sitcom on tv that I used to watch named, "The Game".  The married couple on the show utilized truth moments .  They would tell the truth no matter how much it might hurt their spouse.  They did not want to hide any secrets from one another.  Despite the "juicy" truths they told, the spirit of that episode resonated with me.  The key to success in any relationship is to always tell the truth. So here it goes, here is my truth moment: I am judgmental! on this day - 8 inches of snow Yes, I realize that many of you walk in this same ugly truth.  I know I'm not alone. This truth really came into play during a recent trip up north.  I was happy to be traveling to another state BUT had deep concerns about the wicked winter weather.  Sure enough, my flight first thing on Monday, was CANCELLED after a 4am wake up call.  You keep reading the email from the airline hoping it will tell you something different but it...

Need Your Prayer Answered?

Image
Do you feel like your prayers aren't being answered?  There are seasons in our lives when God sits silent even after constant pleading.  It normally happens when He's ready to move you to another place of knowing Him and His ability.  It can be a difficult process because we long to hear him speak words of wisdom, comfort and peace. In those times, patiently wait.  He will answer in His timing (which is always perfect). Here are 4 tips that have helped me in my prayer life:     1.  Be specific.   Early in my twenties, I wanted to marry. My twin sister married her high school sweetheart immediately after we graduated college and it increased a desire for me to find my soul mate. Before her marriage, we were always together. Childhood.  High school.  College. She was always there.  Now she was leaving college with a new car, fiancee, and an exciting career. On the other hand, I was heading ...

Equality Through Music

We are already twenty days into this new year.  Are you accomplishing your New Year's resolutions/goals?  I just finished a quick polish change on my nails, and a lady offered me a ginger snap cookie.  The first woman she offered the cookie to quickly said, "no thank you…I'm on a diet".  As you can imagine, without much convincing and in minutes, she was soon enjoying the ginger snap cookie.  Hopefully, you have made strides to keep that promise to yourself. Last night I was thrilled to have date night with the hubby.  If you are married with kids, you know those moments don't always come often but when they do you feel like a free bird, if only for a few hours, to talk about anything other than the "happenings of the house".  Once the sitter comes and the boys are settled we sit in the car, gaze at each other and just breath.  Instantly, our world is much quieter so we soak in that rare moment. I was excited all week that I was going to atten...

Intention of NOW

Happy New Year! 2014 is here and another holiday season is behind us.  This year my mom made many baked goodies with yeast, so I feel I have a few more holiday pounds to shed.  As we all do, the thought of denying myself food in the new year forced me to eat more before the holidays ended.  One more yeast biscuit, one more piece of cake, one more homemade cinnamon roll - YIKES! I've already started my detox with a regimen of morning tea - water, lemon and honey and my kale soup for lunch/dinner.  It's the perfect combination to clean my system of all the food and drink from the holidays.   One special moment this year was the celebration of our family just being together.  I work in retail, so leading up to Christmas I spend numerous amounts of hours out in stores and away from home.  The holiday provides the perfect respite to reconnect with my loved ones.  I love to hear the constant giggles and rowdiness of the cousins.  Whether th...

My Top 3 Weight Loss Tips

If you're like me, you are tired of hearing about weight loss.  It's everywhere these days.  Workout clothes are on sale in retail stores, weight loss plans have commercials on every station, and it's the topic of several magazine covers.  Most everyone desires to lose a few pounds here or there, especially after the holidays, so why not capitalize on the desire of so many Americans. I love food.  The thought of having to give it up in any shape or form is not an easy thought for me.  I don't just eat food, I experience it.  I'm a slow eater because I love to savor every morsel.  Just like most, I want to lose some weight.  Instead of starting a diet, I decided to make a few changes. Here are 3 simple lifestyle changes: 1.  Drink a cup of warm lemon water every morning This tip came from my sister's nail technician.  She starts every morning with a cup of warm lemon water.  I decided to research the benefits and was surp...
